Agricultural Research Institute
With 59 years of history, the Institute for Agricultural Research (INIA) is the main institution for research, development and innovation (R+D+i) in topics related to agriculture in Chile. Linked to the Ministry of Agriculture, INIA has a presence throughout the country with its ten regional centers, among other dependencies. Applied research, and food security and sovereignty are some of its main strategic challenges, where the program for the Conservation of Genetic Resources, with its Network of Germplasm Banks, plays a leading role, since the The development of new adapted varieties, the strengthening of traditional agricultural systems, the rescue and valuation of local varieties, and the use of beneficial microorganisms in agricultural systems are fundamental pillars to face these challenges and move towards a resilient and diverse agriculture.
Universidad Austral de Chile
The Austral University of Chile (UACh), founded in 1954, is one of the most prestigious houses of higher education in Chile. It belongs to the Cruz del Sur University Network, the Association of Regional Universities of Chile, the Council of Rectors of Chilean Universities and the G9 University Network. It has five campuses and research centers located from the Araucanía Region to the Aysén Region. Maintaining the diversity and conservation of the country's plant genetic and animal genetic resources are part of the institutional objectives, carried out by the faculties of Agricultural and Food Sciences, Veterinary Sciences and the Faculty of Sciences, for example, through the Potato Germplasm Bank, unique in the country.
