The beautiful city of Valdivia, in the Los Ríos Region, Chile, will be the place of realization of the XIV International Symposium on Genetic Resources of America and the Caribbean (SIRGeAC), event that will take place between December 13 and 15, 2023.

This international meeting is the most important platform to present scientific advances in the field of conservation, valuation and use of genetic resources in America and the Caribbean, being also the opportunity to learn about actions related to the implementation of policies and regulatory aspects concerning genetic resources.

We invite the specialists, students and independent people who contribute with their work to the understanding and conservation of the genetic heritage of our peoples to participate and share their advances, visions and projections for this beautiful discipline.

He Agricultural Research Institute (INIA) and the Universidad Austral de Chile (UACh) have come together to carry out the fourteenth version of the International Symposium on Genetic Resources of America and the Caribbean (SIRGeAC 2023), being an honor as hosts to be able to receive our exhibitors and participants, to address the strengthening of the conservation of genetic resources, innovation in the face of the effects of climate change, evaluate how to guarantee food and nutritional security, and review the impacts of the implementation of relevant international treaties, among other matters of interest.

“Our institutions, INIA and UACh will carry out the fourteenth version of the International Symposium on Genetic Resources of America and the Caribbean (SIRGeAC 2023), in the city of Valdivia. This event will bring together all the specialists in the area and will have as its main focus the visibility of the role that genetic resources play today, in the search for solutions and strategies to strengthen integrated conservation, face climate change, and guarantee food and nutrition security on the continent.

We have invited the community of scientists, researchers, academics, public policy developers, and students from the American and Caribbean States, with the aim of promoting the conservation, valuation, and use of genetic resources, and providing sustainable solutions for the future in a context of climate crisis, food security, and loss of global biodiversity.

Our meeting will take place at the Isla Teja Campus of the Universidad Austral de Chile, located on the fluvial island of the same name, surrounded by the Calle-Calle, Valdivia, Cau Cau and Cruces rivers. On this island are also the Saval Park, the Los Lotos lagoon, the University Botanical Garden, the Prochelle Park, the Santa Inés Park, three museums and other attractions; all in a natural environment of exuberant vegetation.
