Manuel Muñoz is an Agricultural Engineer, Master in Plant Sciences and PhD in Agricultural Sciences from the Austral University of Chile. He works in the areas of plant breeding and conservation of potato genetic resources. He has been a researcher for the INIA Chile Genetic Improvement Program for Potatoes for nine years and has been leading it for five years. He is in charge of the Potato Germplasm Bank and has participated in research projects related to the development of new varieties and the enhancement of native potato varieties. Among these are: improvement of access to seed, infrastructure and potato marketing, FNDR Los Ríos project for lagging areas; conservation of genetic resources, Potato Active Germplasm Bank, INIA-Undersecretary of Agriculture project; and INIA-INDAP agreement for the production of certified native potato seed in Chiloé. It has contributed to the registration of seven potato varieties developed in Chile and to the entry into production of native potatoes, supporting keeper farmers in Chiloé. He is also the author and co-author of numerous scientific and informative publications.
