Juan Pablo Smulder is a Veterinarian from the Universidad Austral de Chile, Master in Animal Production from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and PhD in Agricultural Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Madrid. It has undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, with lines of work and research in the field of animal genetic improvement and animal production systems. He has carried out projects associated with beef, dairy and wool cattle and sheep, involving records, statistical analysis, genetic evaluations, estimation of variance components, application of genetic markers (SNPs and others), and development of mathematical and simulation models. He has worked with Angus, Overo Colorado, Hereford, Black Friesian, Holstein, Jersey and Limousin cattle, as well as Corriedale, Suffolk, Romney, East Friesian, Lacaune, Latxa and Austral sheep. The foregoing with livestock systems of various sizes, livestock associations and farmers of peasant family agriculture, in the regions of La Araucanía, Los Ríos, Los Lagos, Aysén and Magallanes.
